Mark A. Hyer, CL360 InstructorMark A. Hyer, a lifelong New Yorker, has 35 years of security and law enforcement experience; he served in the New York City Police Department for 21 years and retired as a Sergeant from the Mounted Unit in 2003. His career included not only uniformed patrol, but a variety of other assignments including community affairs, investigative positions, management & budget and special operations. In the Mounted Unit, he led — and patrolled with — a team of police officers on horseback in New York City to reinforce crime control efforts and support disorder and crowd control functions at mass gathering locations, such as Times Square.

Upon retirement, Mark moved into healthcare security in the New York metropolitan area; he spent 9 years as a Director of Security in the North Shore / Long Island Jewish Health System. In that time, he presided over numerous successful Joint Commission and Department of Health Surveys; conducted countless risk and vulnerability assessments; coordinated active shooter exercises; oversaw budget, training and surveillance processes; and spearheaded infant abduction and access control measures.

Mark is currently a Director in the Eastern Property Owners Association in the Village of Garden City, New York, where he has served on the Traffic Commission Committee for multiple terms. Further, he has served for 14 years with the Garden City Volunteer Fire Department as firefighter, lieutenant and captain — attaining qualifications such as EMT, Assistant Fire Inspector, Arson & Explosion Recognition, Hazmat Operator, Motor Pump Operator and the full spectrum of Incident Command System modules with NIMS (National Incident Management System).

Mark is a First Aid / CPR instructor for CL360, and also trains and certifies personnel at his fire department in CPR; he is also active in a number of initiatives with his local community including Narcan training and “Hands Only” CPR.
